Welcome to the Kalgan Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Website.

Kalgan is a rural district within the City of Albany in Southern Western Australia. We provide fire response, prevention and community education to the Kalgan area. While our primary focus is in the protection of our own community in Kalgan, we are often called to assist other brigades and agencies in times of need.

The Brigade is entirely operated by volunteers, managed by the City of Albany and supported by the Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia (FESA), which provides technical and operational support as well as the training network.

Monthly Training

Our latest monthly training was held on June 20, 2010.  We met, as usual, at the Lower Kalgan shed and moved off to Boyd Willoughby's place to look at what we would do if his house was on fire, rembering that we are a Bush Fire Brigade and can't entre the property.  We looked at isolating the power, checking for gass bottles and looked at the exposures and the best plan of attack for a fire in the lounge room.  Chimney fires were also covered. We then took the Fire Trucks to another nearby property where we burnt off a small area of bush.  One new member also completed his induction so we have another member able to attend fires.  A very successful afternoon!

The next training will be held on Sunday August 15

2 -4 pm meeting at the lower Kalgan Fireshed

and use of vehicle communication system and accessories

There will be induction for new members at 4pm
